The user documentation consists of the following sections:

Cookbook

Here are a few different scenarios you may run into and instructions for getting quick results. All the instructions assume you are starting at the configuration screen of the portlet, have done initial configuration, and are using the example data supplied with the framework.

Create a simple (single series) chart

  1. For Select Fact, pick sales from the list.
  2. (optional) Enter a Chart Title, height, and width.
  3. For Chart Type, select Single Series Line 2D from the list.
  4. Click the Single Series radio button.
  5. For Select Value, pick Amount Sold.
  6. For Select Category, pick Time and then Quarter.
  7. Click the Save button and the chart will update.

Create a multiple series chart

  1. For Select Fact, pick sales from the list.
  2. (optional) Enter a Chart Title, height, and width.
  3. For Chart Type, select Multi Series Column 2D from the list.
  4. Click the Single Series radio button.
  5. For Select Value, pick Amount Sold.
  6. For Select Category, pick Time and then Quarter.
  7. For Select Series pick Customers and Region.
  8. Click the Save button and the chart will update.

Create a multiple measure in category chart

  1. For Select Fact, pick socSales from the list.
  2. (optional) Enter a Chart Title, height, and width.
  3. For Chart Type, select Multi Series Column 3D from the list.
  4. Click the Multiple Measure In Category radio button.
  5. For Select Multiple Measures for Category, pick Today Planned Sales and Yesterday Sales (use your command/control key to do multiiple selection).
  6. For Select Series, pick Stores and then Region.
  7. Click the Save button and the chart will update.

Create a multiple measure in series chart

  1. For Select Fact, pick socSales from the list.
  2. (optional) Enter a Chart Title, height, and width.
  3. For Chart Type, select Multi Series Column 3D from the list.
  4. Click the Multiple Measure In Series radio button.
  5. For Select Category, pick Stores and then Region.
  6. For Select Multiple Measures for Series, pick Today Planned Sales and Yesterday Sales (use your command/control key to do multiple selection).
  7. Click the Save button and the chart will update.

Filter a chart to only show year 2000

  1. For Select Fact, pick sales from the list.
  2. Configure the chart as needed (see above).
  3. In the Filters For This Chart section, uncheck all the boxes.
  4. Check the Time box and select Year as the attribute.
  5. Select EQUALS from the list.
  6. Click the Select Values button on this line.
  7. In the Select Values popup, click the value 2000. The popup will automatically close.
  8. Click the Save button and the chart will update.

Filter a chart to show year 2000 and 2002 only

  1. For Select Fact, pick sales from the list.
  2. Configure the chart as needed (see above).
  3. In the Filters For This Chart section, uncheck all the boxes.
  4. Check the Time box and select Year as the attribute.
  5. Select CONTAINS from the list.
  6. Click the Select Values button on this line.
  7. In the Select Values popup, check the value 2000 and 2002 (you may have to scroll down). Click the Select Values button and the popup will automatically close.
  8. Click the Save button and the chart will update.

Create a filter for all charts on a page

  1. If you have any Chart configuration windows open on the page, close them.
  2. If you don’t have a Filter portlet on the page with your Chart portlet(s), drag and drop the Filter portlet to your page.
  3. Locate and open the Filter portlet configuration screen as you did with the Chart portlets (find the wrench icon for Options and then select Configuration).
  4. Click on the button marked Add New Filter.
  5. Give the filter a name like Product or Product Category.
  6. Select the Products dimension and Category attribute from the dropdowns, and click Save.
  7. Close the Filter configuration.
  8. You now have a filter that affects all the Chart portlets on the page. To see the effects, simply select a value from the dropdown list and click the Apply button. All the Chart portlets on the page will automatically update.
  9. To reset any active filters, click the Clear button.

Create a (hierarchical) filter group for all charts on a page

  1. If you have any Chart configuration windows open on the page, close them.
  2. If you don’t have a Filter portlet on the page with your Chart portlet(s), drag and drop the Filter portlet to your page.
  3. Locate and open the Filter portlet configuration screen as you did with the Chart portlets (find the wrench icon for Options and then select Configuration).
  4. Click on the button marked Add New Filter Group. We will create a group using the example data’s hierarchy of customer region (Asia, Europe, etc.), country, and state.
  5. To add the filter group and first filter, click the Add New Filter Group button and enter the filter group name (“Customer”) and select the dimension (“Customers”).
  6. Then add the first (top-level) filter from this screen. Enter Region for the filter name and select Region from the dropdown. Click the Save button and you’ll see the new filter group.
  7. To add the second filter to the filter group, without leaving the configuration screen find the filter group you just added and click the Add Filter link next to the filter group (not the button above).
  8. Enter the name (“Country”) and select the attribute (“Country”). Click the Save button.
  9. To add the third filter to the filter group, without leaving the configuration screen click on the Add Filter link next to the filter group.
  10. Enter State for the name and select State for the attribute. Click Save.
  11. Close the Filter configuration.
  12. You now have a filter group that affects all the Chart portlets on the page. To see the effects, simply select a value from each of the dropdown lists, starting on the left. You don’t have to select values for everything in the hierarchy, but you must select a value for everything to the left on the line (e.g., you can’t select a country without first selecting a region). Click the Apply button and all the Chart portlets on the page will automatically update.
  13. To reset any active filters, click the Clear button.

Enable drill-down for a chart

  1. Open the configuration screen for the Chart you wish to enhance.
  2. Find the Enable Dril-Down checkbox (below the filters) and check it. Several new options will appear.
  3. (optional) Check the Enable drill-down in a popup box.
  4. (optional) Enter a Chart Title, height, and width.
  5. For Chart Type, select Multi Series Line 2D from the list.
  6. For Select Value, pick Amount Sold from the list.
  7. For Select Category, pick Time and then Month.
  8. For Select Series, pick Customers and Region.
  9. Click the Save button and the chart will update.
